kinematic changes in tennis serve under competitive pressure

چکیده
pressure refers to the feelings an athlete has about performing in a competitive situation. the primary aim of this study was to examine kinematic changes of tennis serves in increasing competitive pressure. 20 semi-professional right-handed male tennis players completed 120 serves under low (normal) and high competitive pressure phases. pressure checks (heart rate and perceived competitive state anxiety) were administered before serves in the low and the high-pressure phases. performance and kinematic parameters of the serves (two-dimensional motion analysis) were also measured. the pressure manipulation showed a significant increase in the heart rate and perceived pressure from the low pressure to the high pressure (p

Choking under pressure in tennis serve performance: An attentional demand explanation
In this investigation the authors presented an attentional demand explanation for the choking under pressure occurred in sport skills. For this porpouse, attentional demands in tennis serve performance was compared under low and high pressure conditions by using dual task paradigm. Twenty tennis players served as participants and performed sixty serves as primary task in low and high (competiti...
متن کاملTemporal distribution of attentional demands during a tennis serve
In the current research, the dual-task paradigm was used to examine the temporal distribution of attentional demands during a tennis serve. Twenty experienced tennis players to performed tennis serves. The participants were asked to respond verbally to an auditory tone presented at four probe positions (PPs) during tennis serves. The probe reaction time measure of attention was administered dur...
متن کاملWheelchair Tennis: a Preliminary Kinematic Analysis of the Upper Limb during Serve
To investigate the causes of the overuse shoulder joint injury, the tennis serve of a wheelchair tennis player was analysed twice, before and after a period of training, and compared with that of an able-bodied tennis player. A validated specific protocol of the upper limbs was applied using stereophotogrammetry. The protocol adopted allowed to distinguish differences in the girdle joint that w...
متن کاملA Multidisciplinary Investigation of the Effects of Competitive State Anxiety on Serve Kinematics in Table Tennis
Displays of anxiety in table tennis were assessed through subjective (a self-report questionnaire), physiological (heart-rate variability) and kinematic variables. Using a within-group crossover design, 9 university-level table tennis players completed a series of serves under low- and high-anxiety conditions. Anxiety manipulation was achieved through the introduction of a national standard tab...
متن کاملIs Choking under Pressure a Consequence of Skill-Focus or Increased Distractibility? Results from a Tennis Serve Task
It has been repeatedly demonstrated that athletes often choke in high pressure situations because anxiety can affect attention regulation and in turn performance. There are two competing theoretical approaches to explain the negative anxiety-performance relationship. According to skillfocus theories, anxious athletes’ attention is directed at how to execute the sport-specific movements which in...
متن کاملAnalysis of Kinetic Chain Mechanism Affecting Energy Flow in Kick Topspin Tennis Serve in Elite and Amateur Tennis Players
Background. Effective kick-topspin serving in tennis requires power to transfer mechanical energy through a kinematic chain from different parts of the body that is directly related to the kinetics of the joints. Energy flow analysis is a powerful tool for observing the mechanical energy transfer through the body parts. Objectives. This research aimed to study the correlation and predictive ab...
